A man in a red SUV fired his shotgun at two officers Friday morning, according to police.
The officers fired back, and the man fired his own weapon.
The man was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated assault.
The Houston Police Department released a statement to KTRK on Sunday saying that they responded to a call around 11:30 a.m.
They said officers responded to reports of shots fired in a nearby residential neighborhood.
One of the officers received a gunshot wound, and officers located a vehicle in the area with the man.
The suspect was transported to a hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The other officer was treated for his injuries at the hospital and released.
“When we arrived at the residence, the occupants, a male in his late 20s, stated that he had a .40 caliber pistol, and that he was going to use it in an assault on police officers,” the statement said.
“The suspect was taken into custody.
The officer discharged his firearm striking the suspect.
The male who discharged the weapon, identified as David G. Burt, 22, was transported for medical evaluation to the University of Houston Medical Center.
No other officers were injured.
Officers are conducting an internal investigation into the incident.”
The statement did not identify the officers who fired their weapons.
