Australia is a popular destination for tourists and expats who want to design a home for themselves, but the country’s interior design industry is also very competitive.
In 2017, there were 2,200 interior design firms operating in Australia, accounting for about 12% of the countrys overall interior design market.
The industry’s overall share is growing, though, and the industry is expected to grow further in 2018.
Read MoreThe industry is thriving, and there are still plenty of good opportunities for designers to make money, said Nick Smith, head of interior design and design at Melbourne’s Leanne Architects.
“A lot of the companies in the industry have good fundamentals.
They’ve done a good job building brands, and they’ve done good job of integrating a new style into the fabric of the house,” Smith said.
“And they’ve also done a great job of staying true to their aesthetic, which is the core of what a home should look like.”
Leanne Architects has been working in Australia for more than 20 years, and is now based in Melbourne.
The firm’s designers, in particular, are very creative and innovative.
“We’re very much focused on building a house that is functional, but also functional in its aesthetic and in the way it looks,” said Leanne architect Benoit Rouleau.
“Our house is a bit of a hybrid, and we really want to push the envelope and push the boundaries of the traditional Victorian style.”
While Leanne is currently looking to expand, they do have an expansion in mind for 2018.
They’re looking at building a new house in Melbourne’s west, with plans to open in 2021.
